Michel Gauthier, engineering geologist, Ph. D.
Michel Gauthier qualified as an engineering geologist and has taught at UQAM since 1981, helping to train hundreds of geologists and transmitting an original and modern view of Québec’s mining sector. He has helped advance knowledge of metallogeny in the Grenville, Estrie, Beauce, Abitibi and James Bay regions, and has taught as a guest professor in Chile, Brazil, Belgium and Australia, besides working as a consultant for many different mining companies and governments. Michel Gauthier remains a keen prospector and spends several weeks each year in the field, and is widely respected by his peers as a geology expert.
