There is not a single day when the Earth does not quake. Ever since surveys were first introduced, there have been more than 144,000 earthquakes registering over three on the Richter scale every year. Of these, approximately 700 have destructive potential. Fortunately, most occur in uninhabited areas. Of these 700, 16 have a magnitude of seven or more and are therefore considered major by the scientific community.
Earthquakes are often in the news, especially when there are victims, but we hear very little about the geological aspects of earthquakes as a natural phenomenon. This will be the topic of Québec Exploration 2010’s Open Day, which will include dynamic educational activities for the general public. Guided tours and theme-based conferences will also be organized specifically for school groups.
On the PROGRAM:
The general public is welcome, especially students, teachers and guidance counsellors!
