Some thirty presentations in a wide range of fields
  • Québec’s gold potential
  • New mining discoveries
  • New frontiers and new knowledge in geoscience
  • Industrial minerals: at the core of Québec’s mineral diversification
  • Evaluating mineral potential and target selection methods: recent developments
  • Mining investment—What’s in store for 2010?
  • Sustainable development

Over 2,000 attendees are expected!

Session 1 – New Frontiers and New Knowledge in Geoscience

Northern Québec and Labrador (Newfoundland and Labrador) have two of the biggest nickel mines/reserves in North America: Raglan and Voisey’s Bay. The mineral potential of this huge territory for other substances, such as uranium and zirconium, also appears promising. At this session, speakers will review the current state of geological knowledge, future geoscience projects, and the known and yet-to-be-explored mineral potential of this vast area.

Session 2 – Mining Investment—What’s in Store for 2010?

Despite the current economic situation, mining exploration continues to provide some great investment opportunities. Specialists in the field will forecast mining and metal exploration investments for 2010. They will also share their latest thinking on precious and base metal prices and the impact of the global economic crisis on the mineral resource sector. The presentation will be followed by a round table where the audience will be able to pose questions and discuss with speakers.

Session 3 – New Developments in Gold Deposits

In this session, key stakeholders will discuss the latest developments in gold deposits, with an emphasis on large tonnage, low grade deposits in eastern Canada. Speakers will discuss the geological features of these deposits, as well as how to recognize environments favorable to their formation, and how to find them.

Session 4 – Industrial Minerals: at the Core of Québec’s Mineral Diversification

Although industrial minerals are very present in our daily lives, they are still relatively little known by most players in the field of mineral exploration as well as by the general public. Yet, Québec harbors considerable potential for these often neglected resources. In this session, we will review industrial minerals and their importance in our economy and present several ongoing and future projects that will contribute to Québec’s mineral diversification.

Session 5 – Evaluating Mineral Potential and Target Selection Methods: Recent Developments

The recent availability of large georeferenced geological databases has profoundly changed the concept of prospective exploration in Québec. Speakers will review various approaches to evaluating mineral potential using 2D and 3D modeling. They will also bring the audience up-to-date on new techniques for targeting geophysical and geochemical anomalies.

Session 6 – Sustainable Development and Responsible Exploration

Mining exploration is a dynamic industry that has succeeded in adapting to the realities of the 21st century and contribute to economic development in the regions while reducing its impact on the environment in a sustainable and responsible manner. During this session, speakers will discuss new responsible mining exploration practices, current Québec legislation, and the challenges the industry must meet to improve and adapt to these new realities.
