The 2011 edition promises to renew the pleasure of some great classics, including cocktails, the Wednesday Gala Evening (in its new home), award presentations and a culinary experience with Jean Soulard.

Monday, November 21

A trip to the Huron-Wendat Museum

Departure from Château Frontenac: 9 a.m.
Return to Château Frontenac: 2:30 p.m.

The Huron-Wendat Museum, inaugurated in 2008, is a national institution of the Wendat people, responsible for preserving and developing their heritage. The Museum fulfills its educational role and its mission of presenting the history, culture and art of the Wendat people and other First Nations through a permanent exhibition entitled Lands, Memories and Knowledge, a schedule of temporary exhibitions, theme-based workshops and other activities. For visitors, it is also the gateway to the interpretation of several heritage sites in Wendake, including the Notre-Dame-de-Lorette church, the Kabir Kouba falls and the Tsawenhohi house.

The Museum is nestled on the Akiawenrahk River, near the First Nations Hotel and the La Traite Restaurant, and is surrounded by theme-based gardens.

The tour will be followed by a gourmet meal at the First Nations Hotel restaurant.

Québec Mineral Exploration Association (AEMQ) annual general meeting

Members of the Québec Mineral Exploration Association are invited to go over the past year’s activity report and financial results. Eight new directors will be elected at this meeting.

Welcome cocktail

Tuesday, November 22

Géo-Cocktail

Salon Bellevue and Salon Rose, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Geoscientific exhibitors from Géologie Québec and their partners at the Geological Survey of Canada, Consorem and Divex invite you to a cocktail in a relaxed, friendly setting. You will have an opportunity to meet representatives from the MRNF’s various administrative units and to forge links with the up-and-coming generation of geo-scientists who will be presenting their findings. Coupons for a free drink will be handed out on a first-come, first-served basis.

All are welcome!

Wednesday, November 23

KEGS-QUÉBEC Geophysics Breakfast Conference

Salon Laval, 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

Encouraged by the success of its breakfast event over the past three years, the Canadian Exploration Geophysical Society (KEGS) invites anyone with an interest in geophysics to attend the fourth edition of this special event. Everyone is welcome – Geophysicists from Quebec, French-speaking Geophysicists from outside Quebec, University students and anyone else with an interest in the subject.

This year’s presenter is Richard Fortier, P. Eng., Ph.D from Universite Laval. His topic is cryohydrogeophysics.

The Quebec Breakfast is free for KEGS members who did not attend the Vancouver or Toronto breakfast. Those who attended one or both of these breakfasts will have to purchase a ticket.

Awards Ceremony

Mineral exploration SMBs are constantly evolving. The AEMQ will be presenting recognition awards to those who have made the most progress. Enjoy front row seats as you congratulate the recipients of the following awards: IAMGOLD, Development of the Year, Entrepreneur of the Year, Hector-Authier, Jean-Descarreaux and e3 Plus.

At the same time, the MRNF will present the award from the Association québécoise des sciences de la Terre (AQUEST) along with its renowned Marteau d’or which recognizes the creation of scientific products that have contributed in a significant way toward a better understanding of the geology of Québec.

In 2011, the Gala Evening will be held at the Hotel Plaza, one of Québec City’s hidden treasures, with its Victorian architecture. Participants will have the pleasure of seeing a performance by the group Body and Soul, which has been entertaining party gests for the past 12 years with its Latin American, disco, rhythm n’blues, rock and roll and 80s music. The evening will be full of surprises! The winner of the Prospector of the Year award will also be announced.
