THE RIGHT PLACE TO EXPLORE!
NOVEMBER 26 TO 29, 2007 CHÂTEAU FRONTENAC, QUÉBEC

INVITATION

As the minister responsible for Ministère des Ressources naturelles et de la Faune, the event organizer, I am pleased to invite you to take part in Québec Exploration 2007. This annual convention is an excellent opportunity to underscore the importance of our mineral resources, communicate the latest geoscientific knowledge, and promote the mining sector to our youth, the leaders of tomorrow.

This year’s theme, “Québec, the Right Place to Explore,” is clear. The Québec mining industry is known the world over for its rich subsoil, its competent workforce, and the public support it receives.

In fact, Québec offers the best mining investment environment in Canada and one of the best in the world. According to preliminary data for 2006, Québec’s performance in mineral exploration is remarkable, with investments of over $260 million.

With this in mind, Québec Exploration 2007 is a must-attend event for mining industry stakeholders to learn more about key issues, take advantage of current development opportunities, and prepare for the challenges faced by this constantly growing and evolving industry.

In 2007, this major event will bring together some 1,500 attendees from Canada , the United States, and Europe. I invite you to take active part in the convention’s many exciting activities. And please accept my best wishes for exciting new partnerships and a wonderful stay in the historic capital of Québec.

Have a great convention!

Claude Béchard
Minister of Natural Resources and Wildlife

Québec mineral exploration Association is pleased to join Ministère des Ressources naturelles et de la Faune in presenting the fifth edition of Québec Exploration. On behalf of AEMQ, I am delighted to invite you to take part in one of the most important mining and geoscience conventions in Canada. This is a leading event in the industry, drawing 1,500 attendees from all mining sectors, primarily from Canada but from around the world as well.

Under the theme “The Right Place to Explore,” the organizing committee has again put together a diverse program sure to interest you. The convention covers such topics as mineral and petroleum exploration, the environment, and investing in exploration companies. New and promising discoveries and developments in Québec are also on the agenda.

Moreover, for the first time this year, the Exploration/Investment Forum featuring financial industry speakers and stakeholders will be open to the general public for one day. In addition, I am extending a special invitation to interested youth who would like to take part in the day’s various activities and further their knowledge of the mining industry.

And of course, I invite all AEMQ members to take part in the Annual General Meeting on November 28, where you will learn about the latest developments in your association. In addition, several administrative positions are currently open. I strongly encourage you to get involved and lend your talents to AEMQ so your association can meet the challenges associated with mining in Québec.

I look forward to seeing you in great numbers at Québec Exploration, the friendliest and largest of all the mining and geoscience conventions in Canada!

Marco Gagnon
President, Québec mineral exploration Association

As Chief Executive of Xstrata Nickel, I have the wonderful privilege of presiding as Honorary Chairperson of Quebec Exploration 2007.

The global mining industry and mineral exploration in particular, have seen phenomenal, relentless growth in activity for more than four years. When it comes to mineral exploration, Québec has always been avant-garde with its modern and clear mining regulations, its attractive tax policies and its desire to offer effective services. The recent initiatives of our governments to gather new geoscientific knowledge will stimulate exploration efforts even more in the coming years.

Exploration is a crucial phase of the development and growth of the mining and metallurgical industry which currently employs over 50,000 people in Québec. It is estimated that more than 300 million dollars will be invested in exploration in the province in 2007, of which approximately 10% will stem from exploratory activities undertaken by Xstrata on our Raglan property in the Nunavik territories and in the Matagami and Rouyn Noranda regions alongside our partners Donner Metals and Alexis Minerals. At Xstrata, we are commited to a focussed exploration approach in Québec, in alignment with our business objectives and believe it is one of the most promising areas for discovery in North America.

I invite all of you to join me and participate in Québec Exploration 2007, to exchange ideas and to see and hear about the energy being put into mineral exploration in Québec, which must be done with full respect for everyone’s environment, health and safety.

Mr. Ian Pearce
CEO, Xstrata Nickel
